NAPKIN WORDS #95 2011 - Dedicated to my Brother-In-Law Mike Prevor

1. IS IT WHAT YOU WANT
Without a sense of humor, all one possesses in life
is boredom, and that has always bothered others!

2. SADNESS OF OUR MODERN WAY
Absolved of innocence, we condemn friends and
allies, so life pushes on, leaving victims unable to
purchase a balm to cure the shadows of time, theirs
and ours.

Wars so expensive and beyond our means, so our
history cries for what it once could do, what now
it can not. Though it forgets, and it tries and tries.

Now oratorical words shroud our children, for we
no longer can afford to provide their clothes!

3. BE THE FLOATING DEVICE
Laughter can fill anything.

Tears can float everything.

Be elated at life, for with all its sadness, it’s both
floatable and laughable!

4. GROWTH
Knowledge is partly what you already know.

The rest is what you are willing to learn!

5. SHRIEKS OF NATURE
Has anyone noticed that a single leaf, never
dances alone when other leaves are present?

They move in their own way, all at the same
time, crowding breezes with shrieks of joy,
waves of movement, though they appear to
stay silent, unless your wise ear listens!

6. IS THAT US
History happens. The problem for all empires,
begins when the ruler of that empire understands:

It is now too large to rule, so it falls apart!

7. PONDERING LIFE
Thought is the breadbasket of love.

It is the spreading of the most tasteful jams on the
wishes of want.

Once tasted, digested, we order again and again.

When at last sated, we find our limit, we find with
our taste buds, that fresh bite of love!

8. THE LOGIC OF IT
A slice of life is just part of the pie it came from.

Be wise, join others, for a pie offers many other
slices, which are generous, and made to be shared!

IT WAS A LIBRARY AFTER ALL

Today, under the starkness of
a surprising sun,
I entered the portals of my
nearby library.

Because of budget cuts, it now
must close in hours that deprive us all.

I screamed silently,

(it was a library after all)

at this American fall:

Not from grace.

No, I screamed because we
cannot see the pain
we do
to people,
whose only free hours are,

those times when the

library is forced to

close.
