NAPKIN WORDS #85 2010

1. THIS STRANGE CYCLE OF THOUGHT
Each and every day, I ponder life and its meaning.

Each and every day, I admit, I am left confused.

This I believe is the way of life. Consequently, I
believe that we are left with but one wisdom:

Accept the confusion and continue to ponder!

2. UNDERSTANDING
Animals are not unseeing of the sky, stars, the
moon or the sun.

They just don’t care, it is as simple as that!

3. LOOK AND DISCOVER
Wisdom is nothing but a child of hope and smiles.

Raise it wise.

Tomorrow, be a ray of sunshine so the child can
play amid the wise ways of nature!

4. STATEMENT OF A MIRROR
Time is the only anti-aging product that is
honest.

It always admits that it does not cure!

5. WHAT I ASK OF HISTORY
You are unable to change me, so please don’t try.

I will succeed or fail all on my own. Creating my
own light upon the struggle of life.

This will then enable you to write what I tried, not
what you might have hoped.

For I have read much of your writings, and most
times your story is of darkness!

6. OVER EXPOSURE
The first time you make the news!

7. DON’T GO THERE
The desert is not the place to walk for discoveries!

8. BEING WISE
When we are only for ourselves, we remain
by ourselves.

Join the crowd. Make your sounds heard,
you are not alone!

9. TIME COMPLETION
The only two questions one should ask of night:

How deep the darkness?

When will it end?
A very short story.

SELECTING A DESSERT OF THE HEART

Seated to the left of my usual table at the
well known New York steak restaurant, Palm
West, was a young couple, I imagined to be in
their mid-twenties; she dark haired with a most
attractive face, he with his blondish brown
hair, had an appearance of success and was
blessed with the good look of a cowboy that
I once saw in an old time movie of my youth.

When I first arrived, and was being seated,
a bus boy was clearing their table of the
refuse of a mighty lobster, bones of lamb
chops, remnants of creamed spinach, hash
browns, and those last few drops of this and
that. Just a few minutes later, their bustling
waiter hurried over, supporting a large tray
overflowing with a varied selection of fruits,
pies, cakes, custards, berries and more.

All those delectable things for the sweet tooth
to enjoy after, what appeared from the debris,
to have been a most enjoyable meal.

The young women singled out, from the large
selection of choices, a gigantic slice of rich
dark chocolate cake. It was a huge piece, larger
than those eyes of ever expectant children. The
waiter offered them a whipped cream topping,
and nods of heads and their innocent smiles,
proved wisdom wise for his offered kindness.

“Please,” she quietly spoke to the attentive server,
“we will split the cake. Could you please bring
just a single spoon, and one lit candle, For today
is special and we want to celebrate.”

The dessert arrived covered in a thick white cream,
and on top, the flickering, bright glow of her
requested candle. The waiter handed this now
beaming, most charming young lady, a shiny
silver spoon, which she used to swiftly carve
into the slice. She gently raised the spoon, with
its dark chocolate contents, to her partner’s lips,
then whispered this wish I so fortunately heard:
“Happy anniversary my husband, happy anniversary
dear love.”

As he started to chew, his face aglow with joy, she
quietly arose from her seat, gave him a kiss, and when
she sat down, her lovely face held a marvelous smile,
while upon her lips was a small bit of chocolate, a
tiny, yet memorable, sign of their celebration!
